The stone is alive because it's made up of everything in the universe. It has it's own spirit which connects to the Creator, the Great Spirit. It is ancient and holds the secrets of life. Listen, touch and feel the essence...illuminate the soul.
Spiritual beliefs form the essence of Elk Woman's work. To see and touch the art she's created, connects one with the stone, the elements, the earth and the universe. Kathy says that the texture, color, motion, and composition of her work is inherent in the stone. The subject and form "just come out" as she liberates the spirit within.
Alabasters and Marbles from around the world, are among the stones used by Elk Woman. Rose quartz and granite are also frequented by the sculptor. Challenge is fuel.
The image to the left is a 6' x 2.5'x 8" Italian Carerra Marble Sculpture incorporating steel. Images of a horse, a warrior, an elder, a turtle, a mother and baby and a large hoop on the top, symbolize all the elements and the interconnectedness of life.
